Now is the Time to Reflect and Make a Plan

Whew! We’ve made it! The end of the first semester is upon us, finally.

It is important to stop for just a minute and to take a breath. That, in and of itself, is a momentous occasion. We need to take a minute to allow just a bit of celebration for having accomplished finishing this semester. We know that it could not have been possible without having a community to support you with many aspects of life, including the education of your child.

The latest news has given us all hope of beginning to return to some sort of normalcy. However, we still need to be prepared for the idea that remote learning may continue into the second half of the school year.

After you and your loved ones have had a moment to take pause and celebrate, there is a next step that is equally important that needs to be taken. That is the step of reflection.

Reflection is a critical step in everyone’s journey towards an even more successful second semester. It is important to take some time to think about, write down, organize, analyze, and create a plan for moving forward. Be honest and objective in looking at your child’s educational experiences in the first half of the school year without judgment.  Reflection is a tool to help improve your practices for next semester, to help you and your child reach the highest level of success possible.

We are sharing a resource that you might find useful. Feel free to use it, not use it, or adapt it to your own specific needs. It is just meant as a template to start the conversation.

Finally, make sure that you and your family take some time for much-needed self-care. You as one of your child’s’ teachers must remember as Maria Montessori says:

It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe. She must prepare herself and truly work at it.”

Please contact us if you have questions, comments, need suggestions, or to get help with resources along the way.

We hope you and your family enjoy some much-needed and well-deserved time off for the holiday season. Be well, stay safe, and here’s to taking positive steps towards your family’s future in the new year!
